Do you have ministry? - Part 1

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word "ministry"? Most people probably answer "Pastor, Missionary" or something of that sort. Western culture usually thinks of “ministry” as being involved with the Church. A pastor, elder, missionary, or Sunday school teacher may come to mind. Not many people think Mom, florist, UPS driver, grocer, mechanic, when they hear the word “ministry”.

But is this Biblical?

Scripture says, in Colossians 3:23
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” That means whatsoever- everything. Not just what you do or where you go on Sabbath. The writers of the Tanach(Old Testament) were, for the most part, farmers or shepherds. Yeshua was a carpenter. The Disciples were fishermen. Shaul(Paul) was a tentmaker. They were all 'everyday' people. So what made them different? Nothing. Except that they had faith in Yahweh(God) and lived their faith out in their lives.

Genesis 15:6 says, "And Abram believed on Yahweh, and Yahweh counted it to Him for righteousness."
And again, Hebrews 11:8-12, "By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
"By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
"For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
"Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
"Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable." It was not simply through Abraham's belief that he was blessed, but through putting an action with that belief. Faith is an action word. If we truly believe that Yahweh will do what He says, then we will follow His instruction and obey His teaching. Will we not?

Okay, back on subject...
In Acts 20:24 Paul writes, "But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus(Messiah Yeshua), to testify the gospel of the grace of God(Yahweh)." The key part of this verse is highlighted. Our purpose as believers is to "testify the gospel of the grace of Yahweh."
Almost everyone knows the saying, 'Actions speak louder than words'. This is true. What better way to share your faith than by living what you believe?
I have come to the conclusion that "ministry" is not 'evangelizing', but your live example. True ministry is how you live your life. Read Matthew 5:16.

The real question is- Is your ministry one that draws others to Yahweh, or away from Him? Do others look at you and think,"I'm glad I'm not a Christian?" Or do they wonder,"What do they have that I don't? Why are they so happy? Why are they so blessed?"

Shalom in Yeshua

  1. This is very good. Look into the gifts we're given also and find more evidence that our ministries are more than evangelizing with our mouths! Great job!

  2. When I was involved in the Chraismatic movement, this is one of the things I came away with and that is that we are like a letter to those we come into contact with.
One of the sayings when I was just a young girl was to practise what I preached. I have failed so many timesbut, now I know the depth of what YAHWEH means by being set-apart. I am a long way from perfection and can only pray that HE shines through me.
I really enjoy your writing and your understanding of the Scriptures. You are a blessing to me and others. Love to you all there in Missouri. Love you all and miss you too!
