Last Night’s Bright Lights Lesson

An Internet acquaintance asked me to post this- so here it is! Enjoy!

The Reliability of the Bible

Bright Lights • Set 7 • Lesson 5

-Do you believe in a literal 7 day creation?

-Do you believe the Flood was global or local?

-Do you believe the Hebrews crossed a body of water, separated by Yahweh, on dry land?

-Do you believe Jericho was destroyed not by war but by Yahweh?

-What about the destruction of Sodom and Gomorra?

-What is held in common by these questions?

They are all questioned by today’s culture.

We have to know what we believe and be able to back it up. Most times, people today look at History to see if Scripture matches, and if it doesn’t match they say Scripture is in error. We should be doing the opposite. If History doesn’t match Scripture, the History is in error- not Scripture.

How about some of these questions- can you answer and back it up?

-Do you believe that Yahweh is all-knowing and perfect?

-Can you prove it?

-Do you believe that what He says is true?

-Can you prove it?

-Will He ever lie?

-Can you prove it?

-Does He ever change?

-Can you prove it?

-Does His Word ever change?

-Can you prove it?

Yahweh is perfect:

Mat 5:48 “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

Deu 32:4 “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.”

Psa 18:30 “As for Yahweh, his way is perfect: the word of Yahweh is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.”

He is an Elohim of truth (and thus can never lie):

Deu 32:1 “Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.”

Deu 32:2 “My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:”

Deu 32:3 “Because I will publish the name of Yahweh: ascribe ye greatness unto our Elohim.”

Deu 32:4 “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: an El of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He.”

Psa 18:30 “As for Yahweh, His way is perfect: the word of Yahweh is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.”

Psa 25:10 “All the paths of Yahweh are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.”

Psa 33:4 “For the word of Yahweh is right; and all his works are done in truth.”

Psa 119:151 “Thou art near, O Yahweh; and all thy commandments are truth.”

Yahweh never changes:

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Yah, and the Word was Yah.”

Joh 1:2 “The same was in the beginning with Yah.”

Joh 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

Mat 1:20 “But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of Yahweh appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.”

Heb 13:8 “…Yahshua Messiah the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”

Yahshua never changes, and Yahshua is the Son of Yahweh. So, in my sister’s words, “Like Father, like Son”- Yahweh, the Father, must be the same yesterday, today, and forever.

His Word never changes:

Our Messiah said:

Mat 5:17 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.”

Mat 5:18 “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”

Mat 5:19 “Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

A jot is the slang term for the Hebrew letter “Yod”. It looks almost exactly like an apostrophe. A “tittle” is similar to a punctuation mark. Yahshua is saying that not one letter or punctuation mark is to be done away with until all of the prophecies in Scripture have been completed.

Fulfilled- “Accomplished; performed; completed; executed.”

The prophecies in Scripture have not been completed. Because of this none of Scripture has been done away with.

John, one of Yahshua’s disciples, tells us:

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was Yah.”

Joh 1:2 “The same was in the beginning with Yah.”

Joh 1:3 “All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.”

Joh 1:4 “In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

If Yahshua embodies the Word of Yahweh, and neither the Messiah nor his Father ever changes, then all of the Word of Yahweh is unchanging. All of the Word of Yahweh is to be obeyed as such.

“It is written” is stated 69 times in the ReNewed Covenant. 21 of these times it is stated by Yahshua.

While it could be argued that “It is written” refers to the teachings of the Messiah later on in the NT, this would not explain the usage of the phrase by Yahshua Himself.

This can only mean that our Messiah believed what most people call the Old Testament was to be accepted as truth and obeyed as the instructions of Yahweh.

After all, “Thus saith the Lord” is stated more than 430 times in the OT.

Being the Word of Yahweh, all Scripture is to be taken seriously and obeyed as the instructions of our Elohim. As Sha’ul tells Timothy:

2Ti 3:16-17 “All scripture is given by inspiration of Yahweh, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of Elohim may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
