Today's Choice

Last week's Torah portion began with Deuteronomy 11:26-16:17. My brain was stuck in the first couple of verses. Everything else in the Portion really seems to fit into this set of verses.
Deuteronomy 11:26-28
"See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, when you obey the commands of יהוה your Elohim which I command you today; and the curse, if you do not obey the commands of יהוה your Elohim, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other mighty ones which you have not known."
The Hebrew here says much more, as far as depth goes. Just using the Strong's definitions, with minimal interpretation on my part, this is what it says:

vs 26- See, I give for face this day, benediction/prosperity, and vilification/be made small (or of no account)
vs 27- AlefTav blessing/prosperity, when sh'ma (hear and obey) towards Mitzvot (the commands) of YHWH Elohim which enjoins AlefTav (myself) this day
vs 28- Vilification if not Sh'ma (hear and obey) towards Mitzvot (the commands) of YHWH Elohim, turn off of road/course which I enjoin AlefTav (myself) this day, to walk after elohim behind, who not know.

My version of these verses (i.e. stringing the definitions together in my head) would go somthing like this:
Look, I give before your face this day a choice: blessing (which constitutes prosperity), and vilification (that would be, the curse), which means that you would be of no account in my eyes- essentially CUT OFF from me.
The blessing? Is blessing/enlargement/prosperity through my Son, when you Sh'ma (hearing AND obeying) the commands of YHWH Elohim. If you choose to follow these basic house-rules I will enjoin you to my Son (and thus myself) today.
But! A Curse- cut-off from me- if you do not Sh'ma (hear AND obey) the commands of YHWH Elohim, and choose to turn off of the course which would enjoin you to my Son- AlefTav- today, to walk after other elohim which I do not know (or which you do not know).

The whole portion is a summary of some of the key house rules so that everybody is on the same page. In order to enter my home and be joined with my family, this is what you do- You do this, don't do this, no food on the couch, and please walk on the sidewalk- not in the flowerbed. Or something like that.

You simply can't come through my door if you're following strangers around outside. You have to come to me- not them. Decide now. It's today's choice- you may not have it tomorrow. This isn't too hard for you, my rules are just simple basic guidelines so that everybody stays clean and happy.

If you do decide to walk on the walkway that I set out for you, without adding to or taking away from it, you'll get to join myself and my Son for a wedding! Just follow the boardwalk to the end- you can't miss it!
